The Type is an international culture project operating from the fundamental premise that typography, design and culture is a public concern. It was founded in 2007 with the specific aim of increasing public awareness of the role of visual design in contemporary society and promoting research in the field.

We produce research, publications, podcasts and a range of activities driven by a curiosity about how visual design shapes—and might reshape—contemporary life. We invite practitioners, academics, and the wider public to engage with our reporting and research, deepening our understanding of the development and contemporary visual design culture in the global and cross-disciplinary contexts.
